I always talk to my birth clients and my childbirth education clients about the power of positive affirmations during labor and delivery. I find that if they can start using them prior to labor starting (all through pregnancy) then when labor does start, the positive words will flow and have a large positive effect during labor and delivery. Not only is it good for Mom’s but it’s also good for the support partner. Positive affirmations can be small like: “I’ve got this,” or long “My body was made for this.”
It is helpful to have them written out and to say them out loud throughout the day especially when you’re having a hard time. Set reminders on your phone that say a positive affirmation. Or have post it notes on your bathroom mirror, fridge, desk, computer, basically everywhere. You can even print some ahead of time to “decorate” your hospital room or if you are having a home birth, pin them all over the house.
Positive Affirmations for support partners can be:
“I am a calm birth partner”, “I am strong enough to help her,” “I am a loving partner.”
I could go on and on about positive affirmations…
FYI… Positive Affirmations are not only good for labor and delivery… they can be used by everyone, everywhere, at any time!
Have confidence in yourself that you can do this! I believe in the power of positive thinking!
